July 2010 Newsletter
Dear clients and friends of Playas Palmeras.
This is my first official newsletter to go up on the Playas Palmeras website. I know a number of you have been waiting for this for a long time, so I appreciate your patience.
I have also set up the Playas Palmeras blog page. This will be for current home and lot owners at Playas Palmeras. If each of you could email me your name, lot numbers and the best email address for each of you then I will respond with a password to enter the blog.
I hope this blog will be somewhere that ideas can be shared in a positive manner, so that we can work together and continue to make the Playas Palmeras project a success.
I have also put a few more current pictures of the homes and project on the gallery page. I hope to take some nice ones of the interiors soon. Allan reports from the site that on Saturday the 24th, our security guards saw men who work for Toledo – who as you know has been squatting on P.P. property for over five years - starting to invade on the northern side of his illegal occupation, another area of our property, taking down our concrete post fence, and planting coconut trees. He asked them to stop. They said the land belonged to Toledo.
Allan reported to me and I called the police in Campeche and was told they would send police there ASAP. Unfortunately they did not arrive until 1 pm. It being Saturday, the invaders had gone home by that time. The police were 20 strong. They spoke to Toledo’s manager who is resident with his family on site. He repeated the rubbish about Toledo owning the land they were invading. The police chief told him not to put a foot on Playas Palmeras property. Allan replaced our fence and put our sign back up while the police were still there. On Monday the 26th, the same people started to invade the Southern area of our land removing our fence and planting coconut trees. I again called the Chief of Police who said he would send police from Champoton, as that would be the quickest. 15 police officers arrived and promptly arrested the contractor, Toledo’s manager and one workman, who had refused to give his name. All three have been charged with criminal damage to Playas Palmeras property. The manager and the contractor both said in their statements that Toledo told them the land was his and to take the fence down and plant Coconut trees. They were kept in custody for two nights and charged with criminal damage to Playas Palmeras property. Now that we have the full backing from the Procurador (the head of the police force) we will be able to stop any invaders and move them off our property. Also we hope to get sufficient evidence to bring criminal charges against Toledo. We are in the last stages of getting an eviction order against him. I have included some pictures for you.

I know that many of you don’t understand why we don’t have mains power yet. Sometimes we don’t understand it either. We have been promised it many times but nothing has happened. We now have a new Government in power and so far they have been more than helpful and available to ideas and progress. As in most countries or states when the current administration is finishing there last term they have a tendency to spend all the funds available so that the people remember them for doing good. The new governor has taken over and there is little left in the coffers. He has told us that as soon as funds allow then the government will help us with our electric issues. In the meantime the foreign investment offices are looking for federal funds to help the project. Funds are available for eco solutions, wind and solar for example. A few of you have laughed at the idea but we see it as a huge positive if we can become self-sufficient. Wind towers hidden way back behind the highway is a solution that the government are looking at for us. Then we could use our generator system as backup while we wait for the mains power to arrive. On the question of generators, we have 540 KVA / over half a mega watt of power installed, enough to supply over 50 homes to US standards. Our power is from the same type generators (diesel) as the CFE the only difference is that their sets are many times the size of ours. Obviously as progress is made I will update you all. We have just started working with the new head of environmental agency for the protection of the sea turtles. They want to work with us to update and modernize the turtle sanctuary next to our restaurant. We will be speaking with architects and formalizing a plan for the new and improved sanctuary. The idea is to make it more available for tourists to sea turtles, see the babies and learn more about the species. We will be donating land to them to expand the current site they have. We will also be organizing some sort of event to raise money for CONANP (area of natural protection agency) so they can make real the project. We will keep all the clients posted of any events and the progress. Allan and other members of my family visited Isla Aguada last week. Isla Aguada, is about 25 minutes from the project south towards Ciudad del Carmen. They went out on a boat tour and saw over 40 dolphins swimming freely and enjoying the fresh fish. They said it was unbelievable and they recommend it to anyone that visits our area. You can also fish there and visit outdoor restaurants to catch a cold beer. They mentioned there is a RV park run by an American, that is very clean and a nice spot, That’s all the latest news from down here at Playas Palmeras.
